Red Wine and its Health Benefits

Red wine becomes popular because of it's so called “good for the heart” effect. Alcohol and a certain substance in red wine has an antioxidant which is useful in increasing good cholesterol levels and protects the artery from damage hence it prevents heart disease.

If you solely rely on what you’ve heard from the news, you will surely enjoy a glass of red wine in your evening meal but doctors said this news encourage anyone to drink alcohol and the fact that too much alcohol is harmful to your body is something that everyone must be aware.

Drinking a glass of red wine may possibly help your heart due to its antioxidants substance called flavonoids and resveratrol.

Red wine and Resveratrol

Resveratrol comes from grapes skin that used to formulate wine and not only the red wine contained resveratrol but all wine including white wine and beer however red wine is fermented with grapes skin longer so that explains why it has more resveratrol than other wine.

Other sources of Resveratrol

You can get the benefits of resveratrol without drinking alcohol. By just eating grapes or drinking grape juices you can get the same benefits that the red wine gives. Peanuts, blueberries and cranberries also contain resveratrol but it’s not known if eating grapes and other food containing resveratrol can be compared with drinking red wine in promoting healthy heart.

Can alcohol help the heart?

There are studies that show taking all types of alcohol not only found in red wine can be beneficial to heart but it should be taken in moderation.

  •  It elevate good cholesterol or high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol
  • It prevents development of blood clots
  •  Protects artery from harmful bad cholesterol
